Happy New Year !!

Wow time really does fly — I can’t believe it was the beginning of December since I last blogged.  All is well here on the beach.  We’ve had a few big storms this winter and some snow but I’ve only had one session of serious shovelling to do.  Not like most other parts of Vancouver Island who have been hammered with snow and ice.

This time of year I’m content in front of a roaring fire watching silly birds ride the waves,  storm fronts passing us by or waking up to this spectacular sunrise.  Yes it does rain…a lot and yes the wind does blow…a lot but the view is everchanging and looking out at the water and mountains (if they happen to be peaking out of the clouds) is good for the soul.  There are some days I don’t even bother to leave the house.  I’d rather stay indoors dry and warm and I dig out all my comfort food recipes like meatloaf, stew and muffins.

Over the past year we’ve had lots of family and friends come to visit.  Ev Black a dear friend of our who ran a bed & breakfast 3 doors down from us used to say “the world comes to me.”  Which is perfect because when the b&b is busy I can’t always get out into the world.  My mom was just here from Ontario for 3 weeks.  I hosted a giggly girlie lunch, we went to a costume party, shopped, talked and ate way too much.  The best part was spending 3 nights in Victoria before mom flew home.  We visited the BC Museum and went to an IMAX movie about New Orleans.  The scenery and music were incredible !!  The next day we had lunch in the legislative dining room and then toured the building which I had never done before.   http://www.leg.bc.ca/  The building is so regal with stained glass windows and an amazing rotunda looking up 3 stories with marble columns & gold leaf.  We also spent time driving along the waterfront playing the game “what house would be buy if we won the lottery.”

This week it’s business as usual and time to start getting ready for the busy season.  Lists to make & paperwork to catch up on…sigh

Blessings from the beach…Karen
